Manhattan Chorale invites you to celebrate the holiday season with our annual Christmas concert at beautiful Alice Tully Hall (Lincoln Center). The First Nowell centers around the traditional Christmas story and combines evocative elements of both instrumental and choral music.
The 32-voice professional Manhattan Chorale joins forces with the New York City Chamber Orchestra and dancers for exuberant classics like Nowell! from Ralph Vaughan William’s Hodie, and Rutter’s joyful Gloria. A more intimate reflection of the story is found in beloved carol arrangements by our Composer-in-Residence Ola Gjeilo. His Serenity features a heartfelt setting of the ancient O Magnum Mysterium text embellished by a haunting solo cello.
Selections from Charpentier’s charming Messe de Minuit and Bach’s immortal Christmas Oratorio complete the program. And, of course we invite you to join us in singing beloved carols!
